Food - ET and the Mediterranean die

Have you been diagnosed with Essential tremor? Are you looking for natural solutions to reduce the symptoms associated with your disease? If so, then you’ve come to the right place!

Essential tremor is neurological disorder that can cause uncontrollable shakes to the head, neck, arms, legs, truck, and voice. While there is no cure for Essential tremor, there are various ways in which you can reduce the severity of your symptoms.

Maintaining a healthy diet is one way to reduce the severity of your Essential tremor symptoms. The Mediterranean diet, in particular, has been recognized to protect the body against neurodegeneration, which is often involved in Essential tremor.

The Mediterranean diet includes:

  •  Vegetables, legumes, fruits,

  •  Whole grain cereals

  •  Fish

  •  Monounsaturated fatty acids (e.g: avocados, nuts, seeds, olive/peanut/canola oils) - Low levels of dairy, meat, and chicken

  •  Low to moderate alcohol intake

Maintaining a diet that is rich in the above foods has been associated with enhanced cardiovascular health, reduced inflammation, and protection against harmful oxidation. This is because these foods are less inflammatory, and contain protective antioxidants.

In 2007, two researchers, Scameas & Louis. Hypothesized that those who adhere to the mediterranean diet would be less likely to develop Essential tremor. To put their theory to test, they conducted an experiment involving 398 individuals, 148 of which were Essential tremor patient, and 250 of which were controls. After gathering information on the participants diet and nutrition, they discovered that those who follow the mediterranean diet had significantly lower odds of ET compared with those who do not follow the mediterranean diet. In. fact, participants that adhered to the mediterranean diet showed a 71% reduction in risk of developing Essential tremor.

While there is no known cause of Essential tremor, it is likely that the disease results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors can include things like diet, toxins, stress, and other components of your daily life. Adhering to the Mediterranean diet is one way to minimize the onset, or the severity of the symptoms associated with Essential tremor.

If you are looking for natural ways to minimize your Essential tremor symptoms, you may want to consider the mediterranean diet. Maintaining a diet that is high in antioxidants will help to minimize inflammation, which will, in turn, reduce the severity of your symptoms.
