Josephine Korimsek

Meet Josephine Korimsek, who has been living with Essential tremor for over 30 years. Essential tremor is a progressive nervous system disorder that causes uncontrollable shakes to the arms, legs, head, neck, trunk, voice, and other body parts.

Josephine first started noticing her tremors in her late 60’s. However, at the time, they didn’t seem to be too problematic for her. Josephine said, “they would come and go… usually, they would get worse if I was stressed.” When Josephine entered her 70’s her tremors progressed to a point where they were interfering with her ability to perform specific tasks, like writing, eating, and drinking. She said, “The tremors started to affect everything I did, and the more stressed I got, the worse the tremors got. As a result, she spoke with her doctor who referred her to a neurologist and was later diagnosed with Essential tremor.

Josephine was put on beta blockers in an effort to help control her tremors. Beta-blockers are a drug treatment commonly used to treat high blood pressure, but they can also help to relieve tremors in some people. While the beta blockers helped relieve her tremor, Josephine suffered various other health issues. She explained, “the beta-blockers worked, but it was very hard on my breathing, and even after I stopped taking them I was still having trouble regulating my breathing.” Josephine was on the lookout for a solution that would help to control her tremors, without causing her any other side effects. That is when she came across the Steadi-Two — an assistive device designed to reduce hand tremors for people with Parkinson’s disease and Essential tremor.

The Steadi-Two is a lightweight, battery-free, machine washable assistive device. It can be worn on both the left and right hand with minimal adjustments needed. In lab tests, the Steadi-Two provided users with up to 80% of tremor relief. Josephine and Her daughter, Sylvia, were some of the few people who got to come to Steadiwear’s lab and test out the Steadi-Two.  Their experience was, as Josephine put it, “Terrific.”

In recounting her experience at the Steadiwear lab, Josephine said, “The Steadi-Two felt so good on my hand,” She continued, “When I held my hand to drink a glass of water my hand felt so steady, I could hardly believe it.” Josephine added that she is excited to use the Steadi-Two and get back to some of her hobbies — like painting, sewing, and cooking — that her tremor prevented her from enjoying before.

Josephine shared that she is excited for her Steadi-Two to arrive in August. The Steadiwear team shares in her excitement and is looking forward to the third week of August when the first shipment of Steadi-Two devices is scheduled for delivery.
